      <image:title>Exhibitions - Jack Bullen</image:title>
<image:caption>Jack Bullen aims to explore the portrayal of movement, transcribing Roudolph Laban’s theory of dynamics into paint, and reflecting on the relationship between dance and painting. Working in conjunction with practising dance artist, Agnese Lanza, Bullen choreographs dance pieces that are then used as the visual stimulus for series of mono-prints and paintings attempting to describe the dynamics of both dancers. Movement is explored through performance, sketches, long exposure photographs, other media and mono-prints acting as a rehearsal for the final work. The work focuses on Laban’s theory of dynamics, a system that analyses the characteristics that occurs within movement with respect to inner intention. The difference between punching someone in anger and reaching for a glass is slight in terms of body organization. Both rely on the extension of the arm but the strength, control and timing of the movement are very different. The geometry portrayed throughout Bullen’s work represents the space in which the movement takes place. Laban maintained that all movement occurs within ones personal space or ‘Kinesphere’, represented in the shape of an Icosahedron. When two spatial pulls are combined they produce planes in space as well as in the body. The combination of the horizontal and vertical dimensions results in what is called the door plane. The combination of the horizontal and the sagittal dimensions result in the table plane and the combination of the vertical and the sagittal dimensions create what is called the wheel plane. Together the diameters of all planes cross to form the centre of gravity of the body. Connecting the corners of the planes creates the shape of the Icosahedron.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Exhibitions - Belinda King</image:title>
<image:caption>A painter and print-maker, Belinda was brought up in Kenya and studied painting at St Martin's College London. She is drawn to dramatic, fleeting effects of the light and much of her inspiration is from Southern Europe where the light is more vibrant. Belinda is more concerned with the rhythms and mood of a landscape than detailed representation and some of her paintings move towards abstraction. In Britain, storms in recent years have encouraged Belinda to develop a darker mood in her painting, relating to feelings of foreboding about the future of the planet.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Exhibitions - Meredith Wilson</image:title>
<image:caption>Meredith Wilson is an Australian born photographer who now resides in London. She has been shooting with Polaroid cameras since 2010 after a friend introduced her to The Impossible Project (rebranded as Polaroid Originals in 2017) and its new generation of instant films. She has a fascination with how shadow and light can turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. These ever changing elements are perfectly suited to the dreamy, painterly quality of instant film with each image capturing an often unrepeatable moment in time. Further examples of Meredith's work can be found on Instagram - @merrimayhem - or on Flickr - https://www.flickr.com/photos/mawphotography/</image:caption>

<image:caption>My home, in particular my kitchen, is an ever changing environment that occasionally I may think to cook in! I use it like a studio, collecting and curating my unusual finds, into which I intersperse my own artwork. Every pot, pan, tool or utensil provides constant inspiration for my work. Everything I produce is hall-marked with my eccentric personality as I inject a ‘life’ into my subject matter, be it a dancing fork or animated corkscrews. I have worked with different materials including metal, wood, fabric and paper. Techniques have included engraving with laser and Dremel, printing, embossing, drawing and stitch and I have a non-conformist, experimental approach to my work. Recently I have changed direction again by designing and making my own lampshades.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Exhibitions - KATE MCGUIRE</image:title>
<image:caption>A self proclaimed sidewalk scavenger, my mixed media works are often the product of deconstructing and reconstructing found materials. I am intrigued by the interplay between fluid media such as gouache and watercolour and their more concrete counterparts including photographs, text and recycled paper. Fascinated by the human form and the internal workings of the mind, I seek to build intimate narratives for these once silenced characters. Within the dance between the beautiful and grotesque, a mood of eerie enchantment emerges hinged on the aesthetic consideration of line, shape and colour. As a practising art psychotherapist, I maintain that artistic creations are an extension of self-portraiture. This collection therefore embodies the ghosts of my past and the shadowy figures of the present that whisper to be heard.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I studied painting at Bath Academy of Art. I have long had a love of drawing and set up a life class when l moved to Sudbury in the late 1980's. It is still running, held now at Gainsborough's House. I have been making rag rugs, or 'hookies', for several decades now, first learning at Denman College. Sometime later l was pleased to discover that rag rugs were made by some of the Great Bardfield artists and this inspired me to base several of mine on their prints, those of Edward Bawden in particular lend themselves to rug designs. I do like a cat on a mat.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I have been a printmaker for the past 15 years, after a long career in education. Printmaking allows the unpredictable and unexpected to happen. Although my prints are inspired by a ‘sense of place’ my emphasis is on texture and abstraction. I tend to print quite instinctively and freely, building compositions as I go. I enjoy the juxtaposition of geometric shape with visual texture. My prints and collaged prints are invariably made up of many layers and incorporate multiple techniques - each layer a response to the previous one.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Exhibitions - Gay Hutchings</image:title>
<image:caption>Gay lives and works in Lavenham Suffolk. After studying languages and working abroad as an interpreter for many years, she returned to England and studied painting under Cecil Collins. She paints mainly in watercolour and mixed media, working from drawings and sketches made on her travels all over the world. As a print maker she specialises in relief printing and mono printing. Since 1994 Gay has been working in Glad, while still painting and printmaking. She has worked to commission on both public and domestic windows. Commissions include two windows for the Royal London Hospital, a window for the foyer for the Headgate theatre in Colchester and a memorial window for Weldon Church, Essex. More recently, she has been making glass without traditional leading, using such techniques as screenprinting, etching, bonding and fusing. As well as decorative plates and bowls, she creates colourful, textured, free-standing glass pieces and sculptures in wrought iron stands, using fusing and slumping techniques. Her work I mainly imaginative, inspired by the rich colours and shapes of landscapes and nature, together with the human figure. 1996-97 Caroline Swash Fellowship for 1 year’s research study in stained glass at Central St Martins, London. 1994-96 2-year Post Graduate Diploma in Stained Glass, Central St Martins. 1977-80 BA Hons degree in Fine Art Painting, Central School of Art, London</image:caption>

      <image:title>Exhibitions - LUCY SCOTT</image:title>
<image:caption>Lucy nurtures a connection with nature through her work. She uses materials and pigments gathered from her surrounding landscape which maintains an intimate conversation with her environment. Her method allows her unique gestural language to express itself in the moment. When creating, the conversation between her hands, her tool and the medium she is working in guides her. Lucy honours the tender, the subtle, and the overlooked in her work. Her style has a strong voice and triggers powerful emotions!</image:caption>

<image:caption>Born in Suffolk. Lucy has spent half her life in England and half in Australia, where she worked running art studios in remote desert communities. She returned to Suffolk in 2018 to study for a master's in illustration and book arts. Her practice is multidisciplinary with roots in abstract expressionism and an aesthetic influenced by minimalism which encourages space for the quiet and tender. She has a studio based in Lavenham and can often be found exploring the surrounding countryside.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Exhibitions - Dominica Yannaghas</image:title>
<image:caption>Before I became a painter in earnest, I experience a watershed - the death of my Mum - which was transformational. The world had never felt so lonely as that day I drove home from the Hospice on the 4th March, leaving my lifelong friend and mentor behind. That was ten years ago. i can remember the daffodils waving their heads and blowing their yellow trumpets by the roadside, the only splashes of sunshine in the pervading gloom. As that door closed, a new one opened and, all at once, I was aware of the brevity of life. Realising I must ‘carpe diem’ and follow wherever that spark of enthusiasm should lead, I turned my attention to painting. I took a leap of faith, dispensed with the day-job as and English tutor and set about fulfilling my dreams of going to art school.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Exhibitions</image:title>
<image:caption>I draw my inspiration and comfort from flowers for I find them endlessly intriguing and forgiving. How freely they feed the notes whilst allowing you to make your own music. I adore their gentleness and their gaiety, their rhythm and undulation, their endless configuration of colour and pattern, their richness of idiosyncrasy and the way they deliver a fresh cornucopia of subject matter each season. The cottage garden during the spring and summer months is my main source of inspiration. In the summer i like to paint outdoors and pitch my easel in other people’s gardens, making oil sketches on large panels which I work up at home. These paintings tend to be more vigorous and explosive. I like to invoke a spiritual symbolism into my work. With my Christian faith as my anchor, I steal titles from the bible whenever possible, exploring the themes of revival and senescence. I exhibit across Suffolk and run one-to-one and small group workshops at my Hadleigh studio.</image:caption>
